Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing: Gui Zhi treats cough caused by reversal flow of Qi, as well as Qi accumulations in the larynx, regulates vomiting and difficulties in breathing, release joint stagnations, tonifies the middle and promote Qi.
解表祛邪，调和营卫; opens the exterior and dispel evil Qi, regulates Ying and Wei Level;
温中降逆，散寒止痛。warms the middle and drains reversal flows, dispel coldness and stops pain.
