Introduction to the Third Hospital of Clinical Medicine of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University

The Third Hospital of Clinical Medicine was formerly known as the Acupuncture and Tuina Department of Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was established in 1986 and changed its name to the Third Hospital of Clinical Medicine of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University in 2006.

The college consists of 11 teaching and research departments, further acupuncture neurobiology laboratories including acupuncture, tuina massage, rehabilitation and clinical medicine departments.

At present, there are 3 undergraduate majors in acupuncture and moxibustion, rehabilitation therapy, and Chinese medicine rehabilitation.
There are 15 master’s degree programs (acupuncture and moxibustion, rehabilitation medicine and physiotherapy, etc.), and 5 doctoral degrees (acupuncture and tuina massage, Chinese medicine orthopedics, etc.).

The college has one national recognized specialty which is the acupuncture and moxibustion major, three national key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine, five national key specialties for traditional Chinese medicine, and one Zhejiang provincial high school discipline in acupuncture and moxibustion. There is one provincial key discipline in acupuncture and moxibustion and two provincial key disciplines of Chinese medicine studies in acupuncture and moxibustion.

The major of acupuncture and moxibustion is the key established specialty of Zhejiang Province, the “12th Five-Year Plan” Advanced Professional Project of Zhejiang Province, the “12th Five-Year Plan” International Professional Project of Zhejiang Province, and the “13th Five-Year Plan” Advanced Professional Project of Zhejiang Province; The specialty of the rehabilitation therapy major is the professional established project of Zhejiang Province. The Acupuncture Neurobiology Laboratory is a national third-level laboratory for Chinese medicine research and a provincial key laboratory for Chinese medicine.

There are 43 faculty members, including 12 professors, 16 associate professors, and 15 junior and intermediate titles. Among them, there are 14 doctorates with 17 masters, 1 young and middle-aged expert in the Ministry of Health, and 3 provincial teaching teachers. There are 6 doctoral supervisors and 29 master’s supervisors. Taking the Zhejiang International Training Center for Acupuncture and Massage as a platform, it actively carried out foreign exchanges and received an average of more than 200 foreign students.

The college attaches great importance to the cultivation of students’ practical skills, and has established a high-standard, national first-class acupuncture demonstration classroom, tuina massage demonstration classrooms, acupuncture and tuina massage manipulation technique testing rooms, acupuncture laboratories, rehabilitation therapy demonstration classrooms, and an intern student practical training clinic etc. In recent years, the school organized students to “step inside education in communities, colleges, universities and the countryside”, serving tens of thousands of people and winning more than 10 provincial-level awards. The group has been rated as an excellent team of social education, health science and technology “three rural areas” which arranged social practice activities in Zhejiang province.

The College is directly affiliated to the Third Hospital of Clinical Medicine of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Zhejiang Provincial Zhongshan Hospital, Zhejiang Provincial Acupuncture and Tuina Hospital, which are the largest medical education and research institutes in the province, featuring Chinese medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion, orthopedics, rehabilitation therapy, and Chinese medicine cosmetology as the most advanced key concepts and specialty for the post-clinical teachings of the clinical teaching college.

Tim Vukan completed more than ten years of Chinese medicine education at ZCMU. He started learning Chinese (Mandarin) in 2004 and completed his undergraduate (Bachelor degree) and the postgraduate study (Master degree) in Chinese medicine at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. The whole program was entirely taught in Chinese (Mandarin). Tim is now a teacher at Zhejiang Chinese Medical University and works as a Chinese Medicine Guide in Hangzhou, China.
